The Jungle

The Jungle
Riley courteau

1) What qualities did Sinclair believe a person must have to succeed in Packingtown?
No one rose in packingtown by doing good work. If you met someone doing well in packingtown you met a knave. if you didn’t do you work you would rise but the people who did do their work wouldn’t.

2)According to the passage, what is the plant owner's main goal.
The plant owners goal is to make as much money as he could, doesn’t matter how he did it. he didn’t care if people got hurt he just wanted to earn money. he rose up like ranks and grade as if he was in the army.

3) What does Sinclair mean when he says, "...there was no place in it where a man counted for anything against a dollar....?"
This quote is talking about how the owners just wanted the money and wanted to get the job done no matter what it takes to get it. works are not getting what they want but the owners just want there money they don’t care about the workers.

The meat packing factories have changed a lot from the 1900’s to the 2000’s because workers are organized work space, safer working conditions, better pay and also to have the states help if needed. Now the spaces they work need to be cleaned every day and the people need to be using safe equipment and the make the food be able to sell to the people buying. To posted signs were need if it is a dangerous place or a place not to go in unless they have the right equipments to go in.

Imperialist Nation

I think that the United States should be an imperialist nation because it would improve the nation’s economy and give more people jobs in the trading market. Imperialism is the policy or practice of extending a state’s rule over other territories.  If we are a nation that uses imperialism this would make everything in the United States stronger like our army, economy, pay and more. These ideas of imperialism can also be good for other nations if they need help with control over there people or if they need backup in a war if they are to weak to fight it themselves.

William Jennings Bryan views on the US role was that we had better education and we knew more about running a government. “ because the American people have been educating themselves in the science of government for nearly three centuries” this means that american know more about it. Theodore Roosevelt is willing to imperialize other countries because it would make the nation a stronger place. i agree with his ideas on imperialism. Orville H. Platt is both will and against imperialism in different ways like we wants protection but he wants them to have their own independence and control their own government. he wants the United States to be therefore backup if needed. “ that to enable the united states to maintain the independence of Cuba, and to protect the people thereof, as well as for its defense, the government of Cuba will sell or lease to the United States lands necessary for coaling or naval stations.”
